K is for Karaoke! And Knoxville!

I am very excited to be included in an exhibition called Karaoke, at the Art Gallery of Knoxville. The theme of the show is self-evident and Tennessee seems like the perfect place to mount it. This gallery is especially forward-thinking and the lineup includes some people that I really admire. If anyone out there happens to see it, please let me know...

chicago and other stuffs

Hi! How's your summer going? What's new? I remember when I used to post about every little dinner, deadline, and coffee meeting. Too busy now. But still drinking coffee. Plus I read other people's blogs in which they post about every coffee and dinner and, well... it bugs me. So. No more of that. But, at least belatedly, so I remember later, I wanted to make a note that the Chicago Underground Film Festival asked Linkoln and moi for some videos. We don't know where/when they are showing, but such is the nature of awesome festivals. :) I also just kind of wanted to post because it had been a few weeks--which is exciting and weird. I'm moving next week and working on lots of big stuff. If you're reading this (?) and you're in/around/visiting New York, let's hang out. Also, please save the date: Saturday, 9/30, Ben Coonley and I are sharing the screen(s) at Monkeytown. He's a riot and we're also going to make some collaborative, event-specific vids. So please come! (I will post again, soon, because reservations are recommended.) Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Rhizome 10th Anniversary Festival

Hi! Next week is the first anniversary of my employment with Rhizome (I can't believe it's blown by so fast) and I've spent a lot of the last year collaborating with my rad colleagues to put together a seven-month Tenth Anniversary Festival of Art & Technology, which we launched today. Check it out! There are online exhibits, offline exhibits, a major writing project, book launches, parties, performances, panel discussions, and more... It's all pretty exciting. I'll post notes, here, about some of the individual events, when they pop up.

Coast to Coast

I've been bouncing back & forth, between NY & CA, all year. I just returned to the west coast but am about to make the east my more full-time residence--real estate market woes notwithstanding! Meanwhile, some east/west notes & shout outs...

While back east I had a busy schedule, but most enjoyed some great music at Darmstadt, videos from Aurora Picture Show at Monkeytown, and performances at Free103's Wave Farm. I also went to a Creative Capital retreat, which put the 'treat' in retreat! They are doing *amazing* things to support artists and the weekend was a rare chance to see/hear presentations from a few dozen great artists. Because they gave grants in 'emerging fields' (which includes new media), I already knew a lot of artists who were there, but I also had a chance to learn about new people I might not ordinarily seek out or hear about, which was great. I hate to play favorites, but the ones I find myself really thinking about, at the moment, are Hasan Elahi, Christian Hawkey, Danny Hoch, Locust, Ruben Ochoa, Sheryl Oring, Kerry Skarbakka, and Allison Wiese.

Back on the west coast, a shout out to LA's Fringe Exhibitions gallery, who are currently showing Abe & Mo Sing the Blogs. It's nice to see it get some play outside of the Whitney. (Of course, it's all online, so you can view it from the coast or landlocked state of your choice...) This week is jam-packed with fun stuff in San Jose, at ISEA2006. I was on lots of committees for this one and worked quite a bit on the planning, early on, especially while I was still curator at Zero1, so I'm excited to see it come to fruition. I've also been helping out the fine folks at Neighborhood Public Radio. Check them out! And, most excitingly, I'll also be cruising in a limo, sipping champagne, and evaluating artists' pitches, as part of C5's verrrry cool Quest For Success project. Can't wait!

I hope everyone's having a nice summer. I'm working on a bunch of new new new video, music, and blog projects... Stay tuned!
